I have this groove on the cushion on our IKEA rocking chair now. The one near the window, that lets me see most of the 18th Street and Kerrigan Avenue. The USPS post box, the old tree trunk- with surprisingly fresh green leaves, the traffic signal just a hand stretch away from my living room window are all pretty much visible from here, and hence the groove on the chair!
The last couple of days have been a bit grey, raining most of the times. Frankly speaking I hated the rain when it started falling down Sunday night, for I was worried that the falling temperature would affect my IDLI fermentation! Universally accepted as a major worry of homemakers living in this weather. Well, the Idli batter fermented well, despite the rain and hence the lamentations about the rain transformed into some splendid time by the window side, taking me to all the places(virtually) where I enjoyed rain.
And as I think, I remember the paper boats in the courtyard of my house in Nileshwar, the big tamarind tree which sheds all its leaves along with the rain in the work area, Amma's worry about the non dried clothes, the frequent power cuts, Achan wandering around in the attic to make sure there is no leakage anywhere, the mosquito battalion and so much more...Some familiar scenes in many households:)
What I loved the most was the time I spend on my bed, gazing at the rain and occasionally taking a bite of the mango fruit mat( Mangachi, in simple terms) and listening to Megham poothuthudangi. Nothing can be more ecstatic when nature itself sets stage for your fantasies accompanied by some Padmarajan Film moments playing at the back of your mind!
Desert rain, the charm, the vigor...made me fall in love with the Middle east and left me with a feel of wanting more. A couple of showers was all I saw in almost 2 years. But the hail stones pouring down into our balcony was a sight to die for. But I have to confess, I did wish there was a flood, a minor one, that offices close for at least a day! Never happened!:(
Rainy days in Philly! I totally cant agree that you can fall in love only once. Coz, I fell in love again! This time it was accompanied by snow:) Everytime, I think that nothing can beat the beauty of Monsoon in Kerala, he, I mean the rain, tries to impress me with a new accompaniment. And the snow was a perfect partner in the crime. Especially when someone is seeing snow for the first time! But I remember the husband who walked in with his coffee, thought something is wrong with me as he saw me gaze at the rain, dripped his coffee on the laptop, spoiling the rest of the day!
I played Megham Poothuthudangi repeatedly, I tried recreating those days with of course a dried mango piece when it rained. Alas! It doesn't work now:(
Not really! The Sunday evening shower was accompanied by Thunder! Reminded me of Edavapathy, the October rains back home. Edavapathy in NJ, I cant ask for more, I feel....
I wish you pour with all your might, and let the groove on my chair get deep!

Weekend!
Out of desperation to blog, I confess, I go through hundreds of blogs every week to rob some ideas! And many a times I realise what a safe position I have placed myself in by naming the blog, My pursuits! Meaning to say, have I had it under any particular label, say, Fashion, Home Decor, Cooking or so...this space would not have seen any more than 5 posts. I have no interest that persist for a while.
Having said that, I see awaiting weekend and then the Friday bliss is a popular blog post for many. I decide to borrow the idea and put in here!! Post a wonderful picture, something which pictures how i would wanna spend my weekend, Filmy kind, you know. But here is what normally happens.
Friday Evening: I start to ping P around 6 in the evening, asking when he would come home. I tell him I dont wanna cook anything. A very understanding husband agrees that we get Papa Johns Pizza.
How uninteresting is that. How can he be this understanding? " I dont want pizza", I say. " Ok, let me come home and we will decide' he says. Terrible...I wanna fight over something. So finally by the time he comes home, I put up a face and say I had the left over as I was too hungry. He still orders his pizza that pisses me enough that I decide not to talk to him that night!
Saturday Morning: Reality strikes me during early hours of the day. I was being mean I agree and I patch up! We sit down with a cup of coffee each around 12 in the afternoon and I with no shame whatsoever eat the same Papa Johns Pizza. " Half of Saturday is gone, We havent done anything productive". I say
"Lets go to Newyork" says P. Damned, he is very understanding. What do I fight over?
So we go to NY, roam a bit, I complain about the city being dirty. However spend sometime here and there and get back home! A good finish to Saturday mostly is a good movie.
Sunday: Gets up at 12pm! I regret all the time that I wasted until then. And P sits down to read an article. A seven page article about Narendra Modi on a Sunday afternoon. I totally forget what hes upto when I am engrossed in watching 4 Weddings on TLC. As the break hits, I ask him to stop reading! And when I reach a stage of saturation with TLC and Food network, and when P gets done with all online activities that he can, we finally go to the Indian Street and concludes the day with some yummy Dosa at the Dosa House and I have a good time listening to the guy across the table, who whilst enjoying the curd rice, bores his friends talking about the book he is planning to write!!! End of weekend!
Here's another weekend:) I wish I have a similar one for I love living life with its simplicities like this than a fantasy retreat!!

A shifting story: The highlights!!
Brown Cardboard Boxes
Duct Tapes
Bubble Wrap
A lot of mess...And an Amateur mover, Me, trying to live upto a Konkona Sen expression as in "Wake Up Sidd"!!! This has been the story at my apartment for the last couple of days. And the first one of its kind in my life.
Well the story starts from here. The Husband chooses a new job in a new city. The city happens to be Newyork and demands a shift from the current place of stay Philadelphia. The Wife, me, Jobless ( just a temporary status. I mean Joblesness and not Wifedom) is assigned the task of packing whatever I can in a weeks time. Pretty unsure of what needs to be done, The Jobless enthusiast, Me, grabs the opportunity.
The episode is as funny as it would appear in a movie, with a series of events from the mop hitting a table lamp to that hitting a pack of pebbles to I slipping on them to let a pack of flour fall on my head. I swear, no exaggeration intended. What is more interesting is the property's including snacks and other entertainment that I was arranging for this very effort. Here is a synopsis.
Day 1: Shrimps, Mango Juice, Brown Box No 1 and 2 Movies.
And I start the sooner I get up. As if I have just a few hours to do everything, I take out the Brown Box, the duct tape, Scissors, get a glass of chocolate milk into the microwave, switch on laptop, unpack the bubble wrap. Rush to the bathroom, brush my teeth and get back, sit down in front on the laptop with the milk.
Then things take a turn.
I login to Facebook!!!! I think of a status about the start to packing, fail, and sit down for more than an hour. 1 pm it is!!!! I am not an FB addict.
I got to start, but how about the shrimps in the refrigerator?I had decided some shrimps to be my major snack when I work, the previous night itself.
Get them to thaw and I start. I name the Box and start with all the DVD's, Bubble wrap the super heroes with extreme care and cook the shrimps simultaneously. Its all about maintaining your energy levels you know. This shifting is extremely enjoyable:D. I also learn that the task is a little strenuous that just water cant keep your energy levels up. So I get some Goya's Mango Juice. In two hours the Box is more than half filled, The shrimps all in my tummy and I stand at one corner of the room sipping the juice looking at the empty racks which the super heroes used to adorn. Not to say again, I had the Konkona Sen Sharma expression on my face. The Achiever's Contentment:)
And I take a break with 2 movies, Apporvaragam and Violin:D I was badly in need of them to get me a little depressed after the "Achiever's Contentment". I load another bag with books before I hit the bed amidst everything that a bed can hold. :D
Day 2: Box No 2, Stomach trouble, Tilapia fry, My friend Pinto and Some water.
I am a little exhausted. After all I went to the toilet a fewer times more than regular. Could be the shrimps. But the energy levels??
I make a black coffee for myself and login to FB! I am not an FB addict!!!!!
I have to pack the clothes today. I get on to the Job. Exhaustion apart, i did a good job. Wrapping all crockery, padding them well with the clothes. Box No.2 is almost done by noon. Tummy is better and the Tilapia in the freezer is irresistible.
Fry!!
Movie time it is undoubtedly, what better way to relax. And as a part of the newly found love for Prateik Babbar, I watch, My Brother Pinto:D. Energy levels? Yeah they can be maintained with water!!
And hence by the end of day 2, I am left with
Two brown boxes and a bag packed and ready to be transported.
A bedroom, totally unfit for in-habitation.
A stomach, which growls often but still healthy to remind me about the salmon in the refrigerator.
And me essentially, who made up the mind that the "The husband can pack the rest"
P.S: Wish me good luck as I move , that I have Some unpacking stories to share later on!!!!
