I have this groove on the cushion on our IKEA rocking chair now. The one near the window, that lets me see most of the 18th Street and Kerrigan Avenue. The USPS post box, the old tree trunk- with surprisingly fresh green leaves, the traffic signal just a hand stretch away from my living room window are all pretty much visible from here, and hence the groove on the chair!
The last couple of days have been a bit grey, raining most of the times. Frankly speaking I hated the rain when it started falling down Sunday night, for I was worried that the falling temperature would affect my IDLI fermentation! Universally accepted as a major worry of homemakers living in this weather. Well, the Idli batter fermented well, despite the rain and hence the lamentations about the rain transformed into some splendid time by the window side, taking me to all the places(virtually) where I enjoyed rain.
And as I think, I remember the paper boats in the courtyard of my house in Nileshwar, the big tamarind tree which sheds all its leaves along with the rain in the work area, Amma's worry about the non dried clothes, the frequent power cuts, Achan wandering around in the attic to make sure there is no leakage anywhere, the mosquito battalion and so much more...Some familiar scenes in many households:)
What I loved the most was the time I spend on my bed, gazing at the rain and occasionally taking a bite of the mango fruit mat( Mangachi, in simple terms) and listening to Megham poothuthudangi. Nothing can be more ecstatic when nature itself sets stage for your fantasies accompanied by some Padmarajan Film moments playing at the back of your mind!
Desert rain, the charm, the vigor...made me fall in love with the Middle east and left me with a feel of wanting more. A couple of showers was all I saw in almost 2 years. But the hail stones pouring down into our balcony was a sight to die for. But I have to confess, I did wish there was a flood, a minor one, that offices close for at least a day! Never happened!:(
Rainy days in Philly! I totally cant agree that you can fall in love only once. Coz, I fell in love again! This time it was accompanied by snow:) Everytime, I think that nothing can beat the beauty of Monsoon in Kerala, he, I mean the rain, tries to impress me with a new accompaniment. And the snow was a perfect partner in the crime. Especially when someone is seeing snow for the first time! But I remember the husband who walked in with his coffee, thought something is wrong with me as he saw me gaze at the rain, dripped his coffee on the laptop, spoiling the rest of the day!
I played Megham Poothuthudangi repeatedly, I tried recreating those days with of course a dried mango piece when it rained. Alas! It doesn't work now:(
Not really! The Sunday evening shower was accompanied by Thunder! Reminded me of Edavapathy, the October rains back home. Edavapathy in NJ, I cant ask for more, I feel....
I wish you pour with all your might, and let the groove on my chair get deep!
