The Old Idiot Box!!

Would you ever want to miss a chance, A chance to 're-live' those moments? .A chance to say "Hello!!!!, to your school years and Childhood days?? I would never want to!!. But I never knew, i would apparently relive the moments when I answered Prashant with a NO as he asked me if i have ever listened to Russell Peters, the Standup comedian:) And it all progressed this way....Russell Peters - Raju Shrivastav- Karamchand( The doordarshan series)- The feast of umpteen number of old Doordarshan shows!!!! (Thanks to Youtube!!)

It was a nostalgic ride through various Doordarshan Shows last night. Infact," Very Nostalgic" that i was transported to the days when we dint have a TV at home, and every Sunday morning, we had a procession to our neighbours house to watch Mahabharath!!!Grandmom, the leader of the procession!!Fun were those days. A little later, we owned one too!!!"The Neighbours envy, Owner's Pride". Ohwww, How could I have you not remembered for this long, ' My Devil'?The Idiot box took place in the living room and was exhibited like a show piece, placed perfectly to catch attention of anyone who entered the house. The Routines took a major change since then. We kids, who never saw dawn on Sundays, woke up by 7.30am, for Rangoli was the major attraction:) Homeworks on Wednesdays were done before 8pm, for Chitrahaar was aired at 8!!!
Bethal from Vikram and Bethal, used to be Mommy's weapon to scare us to have food!!!!Phew, I cant believe that she had to scare me to have food!!! Well, speaking of Mom and the Doordarshan, brings memories of her burning the Dosa's most Sunday mornings as she peeps into the living room for a glimpse of Rajesh Khanna or Waheeda Rahman. And more funny was how Grandmoms routine changed, as she said she cant sleep without listening to the Primetime Hindi News, even when she openly admitted that she doesnt understand Hindi...:)
Everyone, i am sure, will have a least a few of such memories to associate Doordarshan with.
It was fun to see Prashant enact The Giant Robot, with the clipping.
It was Nostalgic listening to " Mile Sur Mera" and singing along.
It was sheer pleasure to relive those moments
But, its a pain to have forgotten many of what we grew up with!!!!

  1. The Keltron TV in 1986. Maugli, Asian Games, Olympics, Chithrhar, Pandit Bheem Zen Joshi and Evening News. All were curiously watched eventhough I didnt understand a single word spoken. Then came the Malayalam Relay with programs such as "Denver the Last Dinosaur". WE had a adjust that 100foot long antenna to switch in between. My god, it was exciting. Thanks for the remembrance.
